RECOLLECTIONS AND PHOTOS OF
MILITARY LIFE AT
OKINAWA BEFORE JUNE 25, 1950

I bought another Harley, played semi-pro baseball, and loaded 100 pound concrete runway chunks
onto trucks.
My desire was to become a member on a bomber crew. After Denver I was sent to Forbes AFB in Topeka, Kansas. No flight crew, just heat, dust, and working as a camera technician.

This was not much fun, so when I saw on the bulletin board they needed volunteers for Okinawa I signed up immediately.
Very quickly I found myself on the Gen. D.E.Aultman, affectionately known
as the "Barf Barge".

I spent the entire trip hanging over the railing, contemplating jumping overboard to end my misery.
